Yoichi Ochiai
メディアアーティスト。1987年生まれ、東京大学大学院学際情報学府博士課程修了(学際情報学府初の早期修了)、博士(学際情報学)。筑波大学デジタルネイチャー開発研究センター センター長、准教授・JST CREST xDiversityプロジェクト研究代表。
2015年World Technology Award,2016年Prix Ars Electronica、EUよりSTARTS Prizeを受賞。Laval Virtual Awardを2017年まで4年連続5回受賞,2019年SXSW Creative Experience ARROW Awards 受賞、2017年スイス・ザンガレンシンポジウムよりLeaders of Tomorrow選出。
個展として「Image and Matter(マレーシア・2016)」、「質量への憧憬(東京・2019)」、「情念との反芻(ライカ銀座・2019)」など多数開催。著作として「魔法の世紀(PLANETS)」、「デジタルネイチャー(PLANETS)」、写真集「質量への憧憬(amana)」。2017年-2019年まで筑波大学学長補佐、2018年より内閣府知的財産戦略ビジョン専門調査会委員、内閣府「ムーンショット型研究開発制度」ビジョナリー会議委員、大阪・関西万博テーマ事業プロデューサーなどを歴任。専門はHCIおよび知能化技術を用いた応用領域の探求。
メディアアートを計算機自然のヴァナキュラー的民藝と捉え、「物化する計算機 自然と対峙し、質量と映像の間にある憧憬や情念を反芻する」をステートメントに、研究や芸術活動の枠を自由に越境し、探求と表現を継続している。

Media Artist. Born in 1987. Received his Ph.D. in Applied Computer Science from the University of Tokyo, the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information (Studies in 2 years the fastest record). Associate Professor at the University of Tsukuba, Director of Research and Development Center for Digital Nature. Principal Investigator of JST CREST xDiversity Project.
Yoichi has received numerous awards, including a World Technology Award in 2015, the Prix Ars Electronica 2016, an Honorary Mention in the EU STARTS Prizes 2016, Laval Virtual Awards in 2014-17, 2019 SXSW Creative Experience ARROW Awards and more. He was included in the Best Knowledge Pool at the St. Gallen Symposium and the Global Shapers at the World Economic Forum.
His work has been widely exhibited, including in the solo exhibitions "Image and Matter", Kuala Lumpur, 2016, “Sehnsucht Nach Masse”, Tokyo Amana Square, 2019, “Yoichi Ochiai, Beauty of National Resolution ∽ End to End Transformation of Material Things ∽ Digital Nature”, in Omotesando, Tokyo, “Reminiscence of the Unknown”, in Shibuya, which delved into the aesthetics of eastern philosophy. His work has also been shown in group exhibitions, including "Ars Electronica Festival", "SIGGRAPH Art Gallery", “Kempoku Arts Festival" and "Media Ambition Tokyo".
Yoichi published various books including photographs and essays, “The century of Magic”, “Digital Nature”, and “Sehnsucht nach masse”. As an artist statement, he states following statement; exploring the boundaries in "End to End Transformation of Material Things", exploring the boundaries between images and materials, nature and computers, and freely crossing the boundaries of computer science, applied physics, and media arts.
