Null represents the dissolution and transcendence of all dualities—existence and non-existence, material and informational, human and machine. In this work, the vibrant lives depicted in Ohara Koson's thirteen zodiac signs—creatures carved onto woodblocks, pressed, colored, and given form upon paper—are reimagined through digital nature, reborn with new vitality. The reproducibility and materiality intrinsic to woodblock prints, along with the wooden block itself as the primal substrate of life, now become dreams envisioned by computation. Detached from physical substance and rendered on computational retinas, this new "ukiyo," a world fleeting and ephemeral, smoothly floats across the boundary between reality and illusion, infused with fresh spirituality—null. Here, the timeless human yearning to grasp momentary beauty and joy, once sought in Edo-period ukiyo-e, intersects with the instantaneous yet infinite dreams generated by computation. Life once embedded in woodblock now pulses within digital circuits, continuing eternally to depict fresh visions of ukiyo as null, as the thirteen signs, as computation itself.
